Obituary

Verda B. Hepler, 92, of 3886 Evergreen Road, New Bedford, passed away the afternoon of February 13, 2011 in the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio.Born February 6, 1919 in Baxter, PA, she was a daughter of Max and Alice Smith Kesslar. She married Glenn E. Hepler on November 16, 1940. He survives in New Bedford.Verda was a graduate of Corsica High School where she was a member of the basketball team winning a championship three consecutive years.She was an employee of Sylvania Tubes in Brookville, PA where she soldered filaments. She then ran a press in Philadelphia where she finished leather goods.Verda was a charter member of Calvary Assembly of God in Boardman, Ohio and was active as a treasurer, Sunday school teacher, Women's Ministry, the choir, cradle roll and the Goldenaires. She also attended New Bedford Presbyterian Church.She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, reading and bowling.In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law; Elaine A. Hepler and Sharon J. and John Book all of New Bedford; and two grandchildren, Nathan J. Book and Philip J. Book.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Coursen and one brother, I. Ephraim Kesslar.Visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Doug Runyan and The Rev. Bill Beck will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
