Verona R. Schetrom, age 99, of Union Township, New Castle passed away the morning of November 24, 2016 at UPMC Jameson. Born in New Castle on August 30, 1917, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Louanna Hall Riggans. On September 16, 1937, she married J. Raymond Schetrom. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1966. Verona was employed as an inspector at Shenango China. Survivors include one daughter, Kathaleen L. Robinson of New Castle; one brother, Leonard (Ruth) Riggans of New Castle; two grandchildren, Rhonda J. Robinson and Gerald A. Robinson; six great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. Besides her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by six brothers, James, Ronard, Malvin, Maynard, Charles, and John "Jack" Riggans; three sisters, Velera Lyons, Delora Hosler and Edith Tomon; and a son-in-law, Gerald E. Robinson. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00-11:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Rev. John Yergan officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
