Virginia Glasser, 87, of New Castle, passed away on January 25, 2014 in Kindred Care Hospital. She was born in New Castle on January 10, 1927 to the late Clyde and Helen Dick Book. Virginia married John "Fred" Glasser on April 12, 1952. He preceded her in passing on September 24, 2003. Mrs. Glasser was an OR nurse at Jameson Memorial Hospital and a member of the Nursing Corp.She enjoyed quilting and collecting frogs. Her real passion was to her church. Virginia was a member of Harmony Baptist Church were she taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, Golden Age Quilters, Outdoor Church Committee and a Deaconess. Mrs. Glasser is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Dennis Matsook of New Castle; three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Janice Glasser of Hillsboro, NC, Dennis and Debra Glasser of Wampum, PA, Mark and Mary Glasser of New Castle, PA; one brother, Jacque Book of Butler , PA; one sister, Lois Ellis of Butler, PA; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing by her brother, Raymond Book. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, from 3-7 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 4103 Ellwod Rd., New Castle. The Rev. James Hockenberry will officiate.Burial will take place in Harmony Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be given to Harmony Baptist Church, 4103 Ellwood Rd., New Castle, PA 16101.
