A life-long resident of New Castle, she earned a bachelor's degree in English and secondary education from Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. She married G. Crawford Lyon October 3, 1941. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage until his death in January, 2007. She taught English and social studies at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School in New Castle, Pennsylvania, while her husband served in World War II. She later taught evening classes in Business English at New Castle Business College which her husband acquired from his father, George E. Lyon, and directed from 1947 until his retirement in 1983. This was just one of the many supportive roles she played over many years, not the least of which was establishing and maintaining the college library. When the school was sold to Erie Business Center for its New Castle campus, the library included 4,000 volumes. Active in her community, she was an ordained ruling elder in Highland Presbyterian Church, New Castle, Pennsylvania, and had taught in the Sunday Church School and Vacation Bible School over the years. She had been a former member of Rotary Anns, College Club, New Castle Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and a group of life-long, warm friends dubbed the "Halo Honeys." Although it can be said of many others, her family truly was the center of her life. She was our best, heartfelt supporter and a true blessing to each of us each day of our lives.Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her elder sister Josephine, who died at age 15.
