Virginia M. Van Der Wal, 74, formerly of Lilac Road, passed away the morning of September 13, 2010 at the Greer House.Born December 15, 1935 in McKeesport, PA, she was a daughter of Regis and Evelyn Snyder Dunlay. She married Fredrick M. Van Der Wal on November 9, 1957. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2004.Virginia was employed with the Department of the Navy as a secretary. She finished her government career with the Bureau of Mines. She lived in the D.C. area until retiring approximately seven years ago.She was of catholic faith and was an all around lender of good will and provider of love. Among her many interests, she enjoyed crafts.She is survived by one daughter, Lisa and Curtis Compton of Summit Point, W.VA; two sons, Scott and Deanna Van Der Wal of New Castle and Wayne Van Der Wal of Reno, NV; two brothers, Lance Dunlay of Boston, PA and Terry Dunlay of Albuquerque, NM; and seven grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 16. 2010, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Wilmington Road, New Castle.A blessing service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
