Wallace M. Coates, age 96, formerly of New Castle, PA, but more recently of Springfield, VA, passed away August 28, 2026, at his residence.

Born June 4, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clarence and Claire Coates.

On Oct. 23, 1954, he married his beloved wife of 65 years, the former Eleanor Sloan. Mrs. Coates preceded her husband in death on Aug. 27, 2020.

Wallace was a graduate of New Castle High School. He faithfully served in the United States Navy. He had a vast and successful career as a painter, furniture salesman, and interior designer. Wallace enjoyed life with his family and treasured the times that everyone could be together. He was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen L. (Ann) Murdoch, of Springfield, VA; one son, Gregory P. (Becky) Coates of New Castle, PA; and two grandchildren, Grace Murdoch, and Stuart Murdoch.

In addition to his parents and wife, Wallace was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Peterson, and Jane Hamilton.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be a memorial service held at a later date at First United Methodist Church.

Burial will be alongside his wife at Castle View Memorial Gardens.
