Walter W. Lewis, 89, of New Castle, passed away the morning of January 29, 2022, at Haven Convalescent Home. Born December 2, 1932, in Zelienople, he was the son of John J. and Lauretta Majors Lewis. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Janet I. (Crable) Lewis, whom he married March 5, 1955. Walt was employed with U.S. Steel, as a crane operator, working in Ellwood City and Ambridge. Mr. Lewis also worked as a custodian for the Shenango School District. He was formerly active with the Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department, a Boy Scout Leader and member of Center Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Drew Deck of New Castle, Cheryl and Dave Nerti of Wampum and Linda and Joel Hayge of Sutter Creek, CA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter A. and Diane Lewis of Hermitage, James and Maureen Lewis of New Castle and Ronald and Margaret Lewis of California, MD; 17 grandchildren; Anthena(Matthew) Finney, Deanna Read, Cynthia Leon, John (Mary) Connelly, Dr. Melissa (Rob) Jefferis, Kaytlyn Lewis, Graham Lewis, Connor Lewis, Nicole (Justin) Scott, Angela (Alex) Elbanna, Jessica Lewis, Nicholas Lewis, Jennifer (Mark) Duvall, Paula (Mark) Glitch, Valerie (Zack) Finch. Jason Lewis, Andrew (Erin) Lewis and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Lewis; 3 sisters, Irene Ruhe, Lauretta McConahy, Betty Binder and 2 brothers, John and Edward Lewis. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. A funeral service will take place Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Center Presbyterian Church, ECO, 1143 Center Church Road, New Castle, PA with Rev. Randy Stringer, officiating.
