Walter G. Lutz, 74, of 416 E. Elizabeth Street, passed away the evening of May 4, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born December 1, 1938 in New Castle, he was a son of Grant and Jeanette Hughes Lutz. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Stokes Lutz, whom he married on July 15, 1995. He was a graduate of Union High School and Youngstown State University. Walter served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1961-1963. He retired in 2000 as an accountant with the Polar Bear Company, and continued preparing income taxes and record keeping after retirement. He was head of the finance committee for the Greenwood Cemetery revitalization project.Walter enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening as well as reading. He was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a former deacon, treasurer and bookkeeper. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Wendy Lutz of New Castle and Erin (Orlando) Lobaina of Lynchburg, VA; two sons, Timothy Lutz of New Castle and William (Christy) Veelman of Kettering, OH; one sister, Carol Lutz of New Castle; one sister-in-law, Donna Lutz of Ohio; and six grandchildren, Wiley Lutz, Emma Lutz, Elliot Lutz, Rebecca Lobaina, Hannah Lobaina and Sofia Lobaina. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred Lutz. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at 11:00 at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Andrew Jillson. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military rites. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
