Walter L. "Butch" Young, age 79, of Sparrow Lane, Edinburg, passed away the night of January 17, 2016 at Jameson Hospital. Born June 13, 1936 in New Castle, he was a son of Amos W. and Freida Weatherby Young. Walter attended Shenango High School, and then served in the Marine Corps as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a brick layer with Union Local #2 for 50 years until his retirement in 1996. A member of the Croation Club in Bessemer and the Johnson Club in Hillsville, Mr. Young also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his two daughters, Marcy Bolan and Amy Laemmel, both of Mauldin, South Carolina; one sister, Edna McCowan of Edinburg; two grandchildren, Heather and Ashley; and his former wife, Dolores Young. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Edward L. Young. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00-12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Thursday at 12:00 at the funeral home with Rev. James O'Hara of Castlewood C&MA Church officiating.
