Walter R. Zeigler, age 94, formerly of 202 North Blvd, New Castle, passed away the morning of April 6, 2015 at the Overlook Nursing Home in New Wilmington, PA.
Born April 16, 1920 in New Castle, he was the son of Ray and Ruth Zeigler. He was preceded in death on September 16, 2004, by his loving wife, Virginia Green Zeigler, whom he married on May 14, 1949.
Walter attended New Castle High School. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in WW II.
Walter was employed by Colonial Lanes Bowling Alley. Prior, he had been a mechanic for Chambers Motors and Reiber Cadillac.
Among his many interests, Walter enjoyed bowling, working in the yard, and most of all he was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, attending many games.
Walter was a member of the Shenango Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Shelly Coblentz and Mary Ruth Heckathorne of New Castle; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Harold and Ray Zeigler; and 1 grandchild, Jennifer Coblentz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Shenango Presbyterian Church, 3144 Wilmington Road with Rev. Amy Na officiating.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
