Wayne L. Weatherby, 78, of New Castle, passed away the morning of July 22, 2014 at Jameson Hospital.Born December 27, 1935 in New Castle, he was a son of Franklin C. Weatherby and Virginia McKee Weatherby Lindsey, and step-son of Lois Boyd Weatherby.He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diana Marie Hooper Weatherby, whom he married January 3, 1959.Prior to attending Penn State, Wayne attended New Castle Schools until enrolled in Shenango High School where he graduated in 1953. Serving as a sergeant in the Army National Guard, 229th Artillery, Wayne was a competitive pistol shooter, earning a masters rating.He was a Right-of-Way and Claims Specialist with Penn Power Company, and had worked in the meat department of the Great A & P Tea Company.He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Lodge of the Craft Westminster #433, Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, member of the Syria Temple Shrine and Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forrest No.144, and the New Castle Consistory.Wayne was interested in guns, enjoyed hunting, and was a former member of the Castle Pistol Club.Among his many other interests were traveling, boating, water skiing, and snow skiing, as well as being a motorcycle enthusiast.He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church.In addition to his wife Diana, he is survived by his mother, Virginia, of Leesburg, Florida; and one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Weatherby Conard and Shirl Wayne Conard of Pittsburgh.He was preceded in death by his father and his step-mother.Visitation will be held on Friday, July25, 2014, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A Masonic Service will take place at 8:00 p.m.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev.
