Wilbur Arthur McCurley, age 98, of New Castle, passed away the evening of March 7, 2023, at UPMC Jameson Care Center.

Born Sept. 30, 1924, in Mt. Jackson, PA, he was the son of the late Willis Burton and Mary Ellen (Fullerton) McCurley.

He married Ruth Eleanor (Jenkins) McCurley, his beloved wife of 54 years. She preceded him in death in 2002.

Wilbur was a graduate of Mt. Jackson High and attended YSU. For several years, he was employed by Jameson Memorial Hospital, until his retirement. Wilbur was an original member of a barbershop chorus, the Lords of the Castle. He enjoyed singing, gardening, being involved in his church and volunteering at the hospital, until recently. Wilbur was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one son, Ed (Jane Ewalt) McCurley of Lexington, KY; one daughter, Barbara Byers of Delaware, OH; one sister, Thelma A. Powell of New Wilmington, PA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, Wilbur was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond McCurley, and Willis McCurley, and two sisters, Marie Carlton and Margaret Wallace.

Visitation will be held on Sat. March 11th from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place, immediately after visitation at 3:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Michael Spicuzza, of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial will be alongside his wife at Graceland Cemetery.
