Wilbur Lee Sweitzer, age 78, of New Castle, passed away December 21, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA.

Born May 8, 1946, in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of Howard and Grace (Wortman) Sweitzer.

Wilbur was preceded in death on July 28, 2022, by his wife, Lois E. (O'Brien) Sweitzer, whom he married June 19, 1971.

A graduate of Marlington High School and Mt. Union College in Alliance, Ohio, Mr. Sweitzer also attended Thomas Jefferson University.

He served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was employed with the US Postal Service as a carrier for over 25 years until his retirement.

In addition to gardening, Wilbur enjoyed serving in many capacities at his church, Calvary Independent, and spending time with his wife of 51 years.

He is survived by two daughters, Robin Sweitzer of the Dominican Republic and Colleen (Michael) Steinbeck of Bethel Park, PA; one son, Scott Sweitzer of New Castle; and two grandchildren, Shelby and Morgan Sweitzer.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lou Wendt and one brother, William Sweitzer.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 27, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Chuck Fombelle and Pastor Parker Stilley officiating.

Burial will be next to his wife in Graceland Cemetery.
