Wilbur J. Thompson, 98, formerly of McClelland Avenue, passed away the morning of January 18, 2013 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born July 19, 1914, in New Castle, he was a son of James and Margaret Murray Thompson. He served his country in the Army during WWII as a PFC, serving in Austria with the Rainbow Division. Wilbur retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a machinist after 29 years of service.Wilbur is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Howard A. Thompson; and seven sisters, Myrtle Baker, Hazel Koltz, Esther Lewis, Mable Cussins, Elsie Heasley, Florence Thompson, and Olive Cusano. Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation Monday, Jan. 21, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Strobel of Evangel Community Church will officiate.
