Obituary

Wilbur J. Thompson, 98, formerly of McClelland Avenue, passed away the morning of January 18, 2013 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born July 19, 1914, in New Castle, he was a son of James and Margaret Murray Thompson. He served his country in the Army during WWII as a PFC, serving in Austria with the Rainbow Division. Wilbur retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a machinist after 29 years of service.Wilbur is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Howard A. Thompson; and seven sisters, Myrtle Baker, Hazel Koltz, Esther Lewis, Mable Cussins, Elsie Heasley, Florence Thompson, and Olive Cusano. Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation Monday, Jan. 21, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Strobel of Evangel Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101 or to the Lawrence County Humane Society, P.O. Box 62, New Castle, PA 16103.
