Willetha "Billie" Slaughter, 94, of Neshannock Township passed away the morning of April 3, 2014 at Jameson Care Center.Born April 23, 1919 in Balmville, NY, she was the daughter of Russell and Susan Emma Leathem Holmes.Billie graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy, Newburgh, NY, she earned her bachelor's degree in Social Work in 1940 from the College of William and Mary, and she received a Master's degree, in education, from SUNY (State University of New York), New Paltz.She was a teacher for the New Wilmington School District and the head teacher at Pulaski School. Prior to teaching, Billie was a social worker in Newburgh, NY and was also an elementary school teacher in Newburgh.She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta, PEO Chapter A, Country Side Garden Club, Retired Teachers Association and Friends of the New Castle Library.Billie loved her family, was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and traveling.A very active member of St. Jude's Episcopal Church, formerly Trinity Episcopal Church, she also belonged to the Altar Guild and choir and was very active in the Diocese.Billie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John Lockley of New Castle; three grandchildren, Barbara and Michael Neiberg, Brian and Michele Lockley, and Paulina Montaldo; and five great grandchildren, Claire Neiberg, Maya Neiberg, Justin Lockley, Sydney Lockley and Andres Solano. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary; her brother, Russell Holmes; and a grandson, Eric Lockley.Visitation will be Monday, April 7, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Jude's Episcopal Church, 212 North Mill St. The Rev.
