William A. Bara, 90, of 416 Sumner Avenue, passed away the afternoon of June 16, 2011 at his residence.Born December 27, 1920 in New Castle, he was a son of Joseph and Johanna Marie Deener Bara. He married Virginia H. Stokes on August 23, 1946. She preceded him in death December 22, 2005.William was a PFC in the U.S. Army during WWII.He retired in 1981 from Babcock and Wilcox after 23 years as a pipe fitter.William enjoyed hunting and fishing and also spending time with his friends at C.G'sHe is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law; William A. Jr. and Debbie Bara of Hopewell, Randall J. and Sandy Bara, David A. and Patricia Bara and Kenneth R. and Bonnie Bara all of New Castle; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.Visitation will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Frederick H. Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.Military Rites will be conducted by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lawrence/Mercer Unit, 3208 B Wilmington Rd., New Castle, PA 16105.
