William "Bill" James Barr, age 83 of New Castle, passed away the morning of July 5, 2020 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born April 27, 1937, in Grove City, PA, he was the son of the late William Jardine and Mary (Clyde) Barr. On Oct. 26, 1956 he married his wife of 63 years Shirley (McConahy) Barr. She survives at home. Bill was a graduate of Ellwood City High School and attended Geneva College. He was an engineer for Bell Telephone. What gave him the most joy in life, was spending time with his family. Bill was a member of Castlewood Christian & Missionary Alliance for over 60 years. Along with his wife, Bill is survived by two daughters, Deb McCosby and Janet (Doug) Leasure, both of New Castle; son-in-law, Mike (Paula) Williamson of Canfield, OH; one brother, David (Joanna) Barr of Mt. Jackson, PA; two sisters, Jeanne Graham of Greenville, PA, Janet (Mel) Chapman of New Castle; six grandchildren, Jake (Erin) McCosby, Rachael McCosby, Dawn (Aaron) Nagel, Adriana (Andrew) Blackburn, Doug (Maria) Leasure, Aimee (Edwin) Williamson and eight great-grandchildren, Riley, Piper & Quinn McCosby, William, Adam, Rebecca & Abigail Blackburn and Lily Nagel. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne Williamson and son-in-law, David E. McCosby. Visitation will be held on Wed. July 8, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle and on Thurs. July 9, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Castlewood Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 660 Harmony Baptist Road, New Castle. A service will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 AM with the Rev. James O'Hara officiating. At the family's request, masks are required for both visitation and services. Burial will be at Harmony Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial Contribution may be made to Castlewood Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 660 Harmony Baptist Road, New Castle, Pa., 16101.
