Obituary

William L. "Bill" Doran, age 88, of New Castle, passed away the morning of January 24, 2016 at Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare. Born November 6, 1927 in New Castle, he was a son of Edward and Theresa Strausser Doran. He was preceded in death on May 31, 2010 by his wife of 55 years, Jean Snyderwine Doran, whom he married on September 4, 1954. A graduate of New Castle High School, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant in WWII. He also was active with the Merchant Marines. Bill was a lineman and foreman with Penn Power Company for 42 years until his retirement in 1990. A member of the American Legion in New Castle and the National Rifle Association, Bill also enjoyed auto racing, various sports, and hunting. He was a member of St. Camillus Church. He is survived by one daughter, Colleen S. (Dr. Thomas) Laton of Hermitage; three sons, Douglas M. (Karen) Doran of Slippery Rock, Timothy S. (Christine) Doran of New Castle, and Michael T. (Hope) Doran of Portersville; a daughter-in-law, Deanne Doran of Virginia; one sister, Dorothy Pape of New Castle; ten grandchildren; and one great grandchild. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by one son, Patrick Doran; seven brothers, Jack, Edward, Raymond, Regis, David, Robert, and Francis Doran; and two sisters, Mary Siegel and Kay Priesel. In keeping with Bill's request, there will be no calling hours. A private Blessing Service will take place for the family, with Rev. Michael Peck officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
