William G. Elkin, 84, of 2443 Willowhurst Circle, New Castle, passed away the night of September 28, 2010 in Jameson Memorial Hospital.Born February 12, 1926 in Vandergrift, PA, he was a son of Earl and Helen Barnett Elkin. He married Mary E. Moore on January 19, 1952.William was a graduate of Vandergrift High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.He retired from Mesta Machine in 1984 after 28 years of service where was a fitter in the weld shop.William was a member of the American Legion Post 343 and a member of Third Presbyterian Church.In addition to his wife. he is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law; Dawn and William Byers of West Middlesex and Elizabeth and John Baranski of Boardman, OH; two brothers, Richard Elkin of Peachtree, GA and Corbett Elkin of Vandergrift, PA; and one sister, Josephine Schumaker of Vandergrift, PA.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Elkin.Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.A funeral service will take place on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Douglas Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in Parkside Mausoleum.Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
