William "Bill" Hanna, 84, of New Castle, died peacefully at his home on June 20, 2010.He was born April 30, 1926 in New Castle, PA, a son of the late Robert and Ethel Kurtz Hanna.He was married to the former Nancy Ferree in October, 1963. She survives.Bill was a bus operator for the New Castle Area Transit Authority for approximately forty seven years, and had previously worked for Shenango China.He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He served from 1944-1946 in the south of France on an L.C.T.Bill was very active in his church, Mt. Jackson Presbyterian, and served as a Sunday school teacher and an elder, and sang in the choir for many years.He enjoyed doing home improvement projects, gardening, bowling, and playing (competitive) Yahtzee with his family.In addition to his wife, survivors include; Cathy Hanna Hall and husband, Brad, of Lake Station, IN, Dawn Hanna Wallace, Denise Hanna Stoff and husband Richard, all of Pittsburgh, PA; a son Scott E. and wife Dianne of Wampum, PA; one sister, Jean Jenkins of Youngwood, PA; and three brothers, Robert of Holland, MI, Charles and wife Virginia, and Richard and wife Gaye, both of New Wilmington, PA. He is also survived by three daughters from a previous marriage; Lori Sheppard and husband Richard of Las Vegas, NV, Frieda Puett and husband Charles of Darlington, SC and Elaine Torrez and husband Francisco, and numerous nieces and nephews. He has four grandchildren as well; Jessica Iovanella of Butler, Lauren Riley of Atlanta, GA, and Megan and Emily Stoff of Pittsburgh, PA.He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Frieda, and three sons from a previous marriage; William Jr., Thomas, and Robert Hanna.Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2010, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Wilmington Road, New Castle.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Jackson Presbyterian Church.
