Obituary

William E. Hockenberry, Jr, 68, of New Castle, passed away at his residence the evening of August 15, 2013 of pancreatic cancer. Born October 4, 1944, he was the son of William E. Hockenberry, Sr. and Nellie Cummins Hockenberry. They survive in New Castle. He is survived by his wife, Bette Jane Strobel Hockenberry, whom he married August 28, 1970. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1962, William served in the U.S. Army. He was a sprayer at Praxis, formerly Universal Rundle. Among his many interests were Team Penning, horses, guns, wood carving and spending time with his grandchildren. He was affiliated with Abba Christian Center in Slippery Rock. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Amie Sue and Paul Copper of New Castle; two brothers, David and Karen Hockenberry of New Castle and James and Ruth Hockenberry of Florida; three sisters, Sylvia McIntosh, Goldie Hockenberry and Ethel Mayberry, all of New Castle; and the "lights of his life", his grandchildren, Emily, Megan and Laura Copper, and Joshua (Christina) Copper. Visitation will be Monday, August 19, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday, August 20, 2013, from 10-11 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the funeral home. Pastor Mike Bruno and Rev. Bob Strobel will officiate. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Abba Christian Center, 525 Mercer Rd., Slippery Rock, PA 16057 or Gentiva Hospice, 3124 Wilmington Rd., New Castle, PA 16105.
