William H. Johnson, 88, of Elm Drive, passed away at the Haven Convalescent Home on May 29,2011, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.Bill was born on September 18, 1922, in Mahoningtown, where he enjoyed growing up. He was happily married to Catherine Siyufy on July 3, 1947. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, a trustee, and in the kitchen ministry. He attended New Castle High School and graduated in 1941. He served his country during World War II in the 825th Engineering Aviation Battalion in the European Theatre. He was an engineer at Mathews Conveyor in Ellwood City and Danville, Kentucky for 40 years.Bill enjoyed playing golf, woodworking and caning chairs. Bill enjoyed many friendships throughout his life and his family appreciated his care and kindness by the staff of the Haven Convalescent Home.Two daughters who will miss his kind ways are Leslie and Fred Fessler, of New Castle, and Laurie and Frank Giove, of Pittsburgh. Other family members whom he loved include four grandchildren, Amy Steinheiser, and husband Troy, Emily Cannon, and husband Scott, Alicia Goive, and Christopher Giove; four great-grandchildren, Allison Steinheiser, TJ Steinheiser, Madison Cannon, and Alex Cannon; a niece, Lynne Wilson and family; and a nephew, Mitchell Johnson and family.His parents, Chester and Wilda Yates Johnson and a brother, James Y.
