Obituary

William E. Jones, 100, of Ottumwa, died at 2:34 a.m. June 29, 2022 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born July 25, 1921 in New Castle, PA to John and Sarah Mancel Jones. He married Margaret M. McGary on June 5, 1948 and she preceded him in death on March 3, 1993. A graduate of New Castle High School in Pennsylvania, he attended 2 years in business school. Bill was a World War II Army veteran having served in the European Theatre. In 1972, Bill and his wife moved from New Jersey to Ottumwa to be plant manager for Universal Rundle. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, now Grace Ottumwa, a member of Mahoning New Castle Masonic Lodge #243 A.F. & A.M. for over 75 years, a member of Rotary Club of Ottumwa and served on the Ottumwa Hospital board. Bill was an avid golfer, he enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, and especially enjoyed fishing in Canada. He was able to participate in 2 Honor Flights to Washington, D.C. and a Dream Flight on a WWI biplane. Surviving are his daughters, Sharon Spiller of Cedar Rapids, Sandra (Edward) Patrick of Ottumwa and Debra (Steve) Black of Winterset; 6 grandchildren, John Spiller, Christine (Matt) Voss, Matthew (Shana) Patrick, Shaunna Patrick, Stephanie (Bryan) Collins and Christopher (Lindsay) Black; 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by siblings, Helen Mae Jones, Edith Ellsworth, Margaret Jones, Dorothy Fox and Jack Jones. Honor Guard services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 8th, at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Ottumwa.
