Obituary

William G. Junkin, 92, formerly of E. Meyer Avenue, passed away the evening of January 16, 2014 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle. Born September 28, 1921 in Braddock, PA, he was the son of George C. and Hazel A. Reppert Junkin. He was preceded in death on September 4, 1996 by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy M. Sword Junkin, whom he married September 28, 1943. Bill served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army as a mess sergeant with the 7th Air Force in the Pacific Theater. He was a life member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans. He was a member of the Lodge of the Craft #433, New Castle Consistory, American Legion Post 343, Consistory Legion of Honor, and past president of the Sons of the American Revolution. Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by one daughter, Carla Crill of Bessemer; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Cindy Junkin of Bessemer; two grandchildren, Eric (Christine) Junkin and Megan (Charles) Brown; and four great grandchildren, Ariel Junkin, Benjamin Junkin, Rachel Mays, and Daisy Brown. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Howard Junkin, and a granddaughter, Candace Crill Mays. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014, from 2:00-5:00 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA. A funeral service will take place on Monday at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by Rev. John Yergan. Full military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Castle Area Honor Guard, 207 E. Treser Avenue, New Castle, PA 16102.
