William D. Kalajainen, 85, of Jameson Care Center, formerly of Terrace North Lane, passed away the night of July 24, 2014 at Jameson Hospital.Born July 8, 1929 in New Castle, he was a son of Matthew and Mable Thompson Kalajainen.He was preceded in death on March 9, 1989 by his wife of 32 years, Rosalie J. McFarland Kalajainen, whom he married in June, 1956.After his graduation from Shenango High School in 1947, Bill served his country in the Army as a corporal during the Korean War.Mr. Kalajainen was a letter carrier in Youngstown, Ohio for the U.S. Postal Service. He was employed with The Crane Company as a core finisher for 34 years.Among his many interests, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, sports, and loved music.He was a member of First Alliance Church.Bill is survived by two sons, William D. Kalajainen, Jr. and his wife Mary Jane, of Lansdale, PA, and Dennis M. Kalajainen and his wife Anita, of Manassas, VA; one sister, Carol Fontanesi of New Castle; and three grandchildren, Paul (Melissa) Kalajainen, Amy Kalajainen, and Mark Kalajainen.In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Charles and Robert Kalajainen.Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will take place on Monday, July 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev.
