Obituary

William L. "Maz" Mazzocca, 78, of E. Hillcrest Ave., New Castle, passed away on Sunday morning, Oct. 17th, 2010, in Jameson Hospital.Born December 13, 1931 in New Castle, he was the son of the late John and Mary DeRamo Mazzocca. He married the former Shirley Turk on May 9, 1981, she survives. Previous to Shirley, he married the former Mary Ann Sojack on February 3, 1951, she also survives, both still living in New Castle.Bill was a graduate of New Castle High School. He worked as a distribution superintendent for Pennsylvania American Water Company for 38 years, retiring in 1994. He also worked for Castle Hills Golf Course.Bill was an avid bowler and golfer. He also loved to cook and bake, his speciality was wedding soup and cakes.Bill was proud of his grandchildren and was best known for his great sense of humor. He loved to make people smile. He was also a member of the Polish Falcons Club and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.Mr. Mazzocca is survived by three daughters, Rita (Richard) Latsko, Lisa (Marvin) Speicher, and Jodi (Carl) Tammaro, all of New Castle; and one son, Richard (Rosemary) Mazzocca of Hermitage; two brothers, Guy and Albert Mazzocca, both of New Castle; and two sisters, Connie Mazzocca of New Castle and Nancy Mazzocca of White Bluff TN. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Benjamin Chiarini, Jaime Redpath, Michaelynn Heasley, Richard Anthony Mazzocca, Faith Bradac, Kevin Mazzocca, Devan Heasley, Hailey Tammaro, Nicholas Tammaro, Jonathan Tammaro; and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Hinkson and Mira Bella Chiarini.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Angelo and Vincent Mazzocca; and two infant siblings.Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 19th, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the R.Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Erin Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.Memorial Contributions may be made to Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1211 Wilmington Avenue, New Castle Pa. 16105.
