William Eugene Pontius, 78, of 3539-2 Hunters Woods, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 19, 2010, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.He was born February 21, 1932 in New Castle, the son of the late John and Ruth Gromley Pontius.He married the late Goldie Sickafuse Pontius on June 22, 1951, she preceded him on December 28, 2002 after 51 years of marriage. He then married Virginia Robison Anderson Pontius on November 18, 2006, she survives. Bill was a faithful member of the Eastbrook United Methodist Church and enjoyed the Paws and Taws square dancing group. Being an avid sports fan, he actively supported the Laurel Booster Club and work on the high school football yardage chain gang for 39 years without missing a home game. He truly enjoyed golfing having made four hole-in-ones over his playing years and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Bill work for Lockley Manufacturing in New Castle for 44 years. He was a loving dedicated family man with a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all who know him.Besides his wife Virginia, he is survived by a daughter, Linda Foor of Bedford, PA.; a stepdaughter Debra Michael of New Castle; sons: Rob Pontius of Hermitage, Timothy W. Pontius of Volant, and Barry W. Pontius of Valencia, CA.; stepsons: Robert Anderson of Volant and Wayne Anderson of New Castle.; brothers Robert Pontius and Richard Pontius of New Castle and Kenneth Gaiser of Jamestown, NY.; sister: Janet Henderson of Falconer, NY.; five grandchildren and eight step grandchildren; two great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.He was preceded by his parents and first wife Goldie Pontius.A memorial service will be held at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road Saturday, August 21, 2010, at 4:00 P.M. conducted by the Rev John Patterson.Memorial contributions made be made in his name to the Eastbrook United Methodist Church, 2412 Eastbrook Road, New Castle, PA. 16105.
