William E. "Bill" Salzman, 84, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of July 27, 2014 at Jameson Hospital.Born, November 27, 1929 in Edinburg, he was the son of Elmer and Frances Evans Salzman.Bill married Clara Ann Bratschie on August 30, 1952. She survives.He graduated from Union High School in 1949 and Slippery Rock Teachers College in 1954. Bill then received his Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a PFC in the Signal Corps.A teacher at Neshannock Elementary School, he then became principal at Shenango Elementary School retiring in 1986 after 23 years. Bill then worked for 19 years as a truck driver for Golf Car Supply Co.He enjoyed hunting, boating, gardening, travel and was a jack of all trades.A 32nd Degree Mason, Bill was a member of Mahoning Lodge, New Castle Consistory, and Syria Shrine. He was a Boy Scout leader for Clen-Moore Troop and was a fund raiser for the New Castle YMCA.Bill was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a Sunday school teacher. Bill and Clara Ann were the first couple married at Northminster.In addition to his wife, Clara Ann, Bill is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia A. and Casey Konchar of Chesterton, IN, and Marcy E. and Chris Williams of New Castle; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott E. and Melanie Salzman of Mooreseville, NC, and Bradley W. and Janey Salzman of Farmington, NM; two sisters, Frances Tarnaski of New Castle, and Althea Chisholm of Yoakum, TX; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer Salzman, and Joseph Salzman; five sisters, Virginia Jennings, Dorothy Todd, Harriett Zabloudil, Mary Elizabeth Seamans, and Sally Martin; and a grandson, Robby Green.Visitation will be Wednesday, July 30, 2014, 5-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2434 Wilmington Road.
