Zachariah Allerton, Jr., age 93 of New Castle, passed away the evening of June 9 ,2019 at Quality Life Services, New Castle. Born March 16, 1926, in New Castle, he was the son to the late Zachariah and Bessie (Woodings) Allerton, Sr. On October 11, 1947, he married Elaine A. (Potter) Allerton. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2016. Mr. Allerton was a New Castle High School graduate and attended the New Castle Business School. He served in the United States Army Air Corps, during World War II. He was employed by the City of New Castle as a Fireman for 33 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed being a member of PORKS -Penn Ohio Radio Kontrol Society and flying radio control airplanes. Zachariah loved photography and was a founding member of the New Castle Camera Club. Zachariah is survived by one son; Zach A. Allerton, of New Castle, one daughter; Jill E. Allerton of New Castle and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Elaine. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 12th at 1:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, with the Rev. Richard Vogeley of First Presbyterian, officiating. Burial will be at Castle View Memorial Gardens. Memorial Contributions may be made to the New Castle City Rescue Mission, 319 S.
